It is something you have to get used to -- when researching your family history.
I have oodles of different spellings for some of my names..

Using my dictionary I'd say it sometimes adds to the frustration :-)
viz:
"Kilvington" transcribed as "Kilswington" and
"Shearing" probably written as heard "Sharring",
"Shirras" written as "Shirraws" etc., etc.
