Nickname "Lalty" - is this a Scottish/ Irish word or expression
« on: Wednesday 11 July 18 13:52 BST (UK) »
One of my ancestors (great-great uncle) had the nickname - Lalty.
He was Hugh "Lalty" Wilson born 1869 in Mauchline Scotland and died 1940 in Newmilns Scotland .

Hugh was a professional football player and had a long career at Sunderland Football Club. I've been researching his personal and playing life  and his nickname has me stumped.

Any ideas? Is this a Scottish or Irish expression? Or perhaps a North East of England word?

All suggestions and help welcome,

Thanks

Looby :)

Hi,
I saw this……..
Lalty Northern Ireland is the condition of being inebriated and rowdy. A lalt may be recognized by the action of raising his or her glass and shouting "Eyooooo! Lalty!"
