I have found a marriage of my ancestors at the England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973, however, there's no image, just the following transcription, and was wondering if the original or the bans, are online, as I don't live nearby and would like to know the name of his parents, and verify the name of her parents.  I have been searching on Ancestry, FS and FindMyPast, but no luck. Unfortunately pre-1837 marriage entries do not show fathers' names - unless, of course, they were witnesses to the marriage.

Do you have an LDS centre near to where you live.  You may be able to access the film.  :-\  Alternatively contact Cumbria Records Office - they have the registers and BTs for St Bees from 1538.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thank you.  No, unfortunately I couldn't find the image on my local LDS and when contacted Cumbria, they do charge quite a lot per research and there's no guarantee that the names of the parents will be included, as you explained.

Yes, that's them. Jemima was baptised as Jemima Carr, then she married as Jemima Crickson Carr. Therefore I'm not sure if John Crickson was his bio dad. John is also recorded as John Erickson in one of the docs. He stated that he was born in Scotland in every Census, except in one (think is the 1841) that he's down as born in Liverpool.  I tried on Ancestry, FindMyPast, Scotland's People, etc. and there's no info about John Crickson at all. However, there's a Johan Crickson, b. in the Netherlands, as prisoner in Scotland (because of the Napoleonic war).  This Johan was born around the same time.

Also, I'm trying to locate information for John Wilson's parents. He stated that he was born in Bees and Whitehaven in the Census. I do think he's the John Wilson, baptised on 19 Nov 1803 at St Bees, son of Thomas Wilson and Hannah, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for your help!

Transcriptions of St Bees parish registers are also available at St Bees Library - http://www.stbees.org.uk/churches/priory/genealogy.html

I can't understand a research charge when you have the date, place & names. I simply order a print from film price posted and I don't think I've paid more than £4 - £13 at various UK Archives, for a print posted.

Witnesses
The thing is, besides Church Officials witnessing (which you won't know about unless you see several Marriages, or pages of entries), occasionally the name of a Wedding witness was a relative to one of the couple.

Was it St Bees Theological College?
There was a Theological College at St Bees, Cumbria, training C of E Ministers. One of my Ancestor's siblings born Selby went to St. Bees.

If you think he may be a Minister, or died a Minister, look in Crockford's Clerical Directory (entries abbreviated), it can give the places of where they served, sometimes a Birthplace, if the Father was a Minister and you might also find a short paragraph of them if they died a Minister in the local newspaper.

Example snippet attached.

Checked the marriage record for John Wilson.  No parents are listed on the entry.  The witnesses were Thomas Wilson and Henry Bragg.

The baptism record for John Wilson is very difficult to read, but it gives his father as a labourer and the address is Cross Green.  The register has his birth date as 19/11/1803 and his baptism date as 29/11/1803.

Sorry there was no further information.

Thank you! That's of great help. I'm trying to locate a Cross Green in today's map and it seems there's none in Whitehaven but Leeds. However there's a Cross Street in Whitehaven. I'm trying to locate older maps right now.
