Birmingham Aston Union workhouse registers
« on: Thursday 12 July 18 13:39 BST (UK) »
I have been going round in circles for so long now I'm giddy!

My GGM was sent to Birmingham workhouse for having a child out of wedlock in 1907. I am desperate to find out what happened to her after. I was told she was deported to Australia years later but now Im doubting if this is true. Can someone please help me find any records of inmates or census. I have tried find my past but can't find anything at all on workhouses. Where am I going wrong I need a new direction to look in.

Any help would be great x

I have found this, at the end of the article it does refer to where the documents are now kept.

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Would you like to post your GGM's name and birth year so we can help to find her?

Welcome to RootsChat  :)  Birmingham Archives and Heritage Service within Birmingham Library may be of assistance to you.

If you post the names here (assuming of course that both persons are now deceased) we might be able to help you further in your searches relating to census results.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Welcome to rootschat

This is the link for Brmingham.  Records available are mentioned towards the end of the article
http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Birmingham/

If you tell us who she was and where and when she was born we may be able to locate her after the birth of her child

Sorry,

I do have a bit more information on Jessie before she went into the work house, I think she may have been born 1890 but unsure and her mother and father were Edward and Alice Woodward, I just can't find anything in her from 1907onwards. Really stuck don't know where to look next. I have asked Birmingham library but they don't hold admissions records for Aston workhouse. So I'm stuck .
