Bertha Fox nee Cliffe need help!!
« on: Sunday 15 July 18 14:38 BST (UK) »
I have been researching into my great grandmother Bertha Cliffe. She was born in 1886 in Liverpool and in 1906 married her husband William Fox. In 1910 she gave birth to a daughter and had another daughter (my grandmother) in 1917, both born in Liverpool. The last place I have her is in Liverpool in 1925 according to the electoral rolls. I know that William Fox moved to Keighley and remarried in 1925 bringing both his daughters with him. The oldest daughter was placed in a mental asylum in 1931 and remained there until she passed away. On her hospital records it states that her mother was insane. I have been looking for any records to find out what happened to Bertha but cannot seem to find anything.

Can anybody help me please??

When he remarried he had changed his name to William Claire. I know this as in his obituary in my local newspaper it listed my grandmother as his daughter. He married a lady called Annie Brook.

On the marriage certificate he is listed as a bachelor.

I ordered the marriage cert and it said his name was William Francis Claire. He listed his dad as John Claire (artist) and on his marriage to Bertha he listed his father as John Fox (artist). It has been driving me crazy haha.

Possibly I know that they had a child before the 1911 census that had died but could never find anything. *Update* Just looked for him on ancestry and it is the correct child as the address is the same as where they were living
