« on: Wednesday 18 July 18 11:06 BST (UK) »
I have FTM  Family tree maker,   the newest version, !  bought it last year.
In my opinion, it is nothing like its predecessor...... but coping..

However wanted a better or a.n.other one and Roots Magic, were doing a special offer so sent for it.

Havent tried it yet.

We shall see.... it is the only hobby I have nowadays... so its ok...

However FTM  have today told me they will not work until I download IE 11....

What!!!!

one minute the weather is wrong and they wont sync.. and now they are telling me... NOT to use it with google..

I just want to play with dead rellies, in peace ...

:(

RootsMagic is excellent, but probably needs a little time to adjust to the differences from FTM. I believe RM may now be able to directly import FTM files, which should ease the process.

This link might help with your IE11 problem:

I mainly FTM 2017 synched to Ancestry but also RM7 from time to time. I've imported my current FTM tree into RM7 to use RM features that FTM doesn't have (views, reports, problem-checking tools, ...). In general, I find RM7 has much better tools for highlighting possible issues in the tree data, missing information/references/media, finding duplicate facts, & people, etc.

RM7 also has a 'Treeshare' to generate a tree directly from Ancestry.com and keep this in synch. I haven't tested it yet .
