I can't understand why my father was called Henry on his marriage certificate as his name was shown as Harry Lawson Russell on his birth certificate and also he signed his name as Harry Lawson Russell on his indenture for his apprenticeship.  Perhaps an official was being officious.

Henry and Harry are interchangeable as Elwyn said. My point was that on the marriage record he is listed as Henry not Harry which only really makes a difference when searching for the record. Throughout his life he might have used both versions. If you find baptism record, school records, etc. you could easily find either name used.
