Evening everyone,

Im searching for My Great Grandfather served in the Merchant Navy during the second world war.
I've managed to find a medal card online, unfortunately nothing else. Really struggling on the national archives website, finding it difficult to use.
Don't have much information to go on,  no ship name. Only his name & Dob and where he was born. Oh and found a discharge number.
Would appreciate any help

His CR1 and CR10 records are available on FindMyPast.

If he had MN service in WW2. His "seamans pouch" appears to have been lost or destroyed. This in itself is not unusual as many of these documents are missing.
What you really need is his FORM CRS10. This is a different document from the CR10 as outlined by KGarrard and will have details of the vessels he sailed on from early 1941, together with dates and places of engagement and discharge.
Unfortunately FORMS CRS10 are not on line so a trip to the National Archive, for a number of reasons, is your best bet.
If anywhere it will be in the piece BT382/424

Be sure to quote his Dis A number, as this is unique to him.

Thank you seaweed for your very helpful advice. He joined in 1918 by the looks of things, so he would only been 17/18 yrs old.
Think he served a good few years, medal card said 1939, so must of served during the war document stated  1st voyage was the Harmonic. Remember my grandmother's saying he was a chief engineer.
