Looking for William Oliver Measam/Measom/Meason
« on: Saturday 21 July 18 11:49 BST (UK) »
I cant seem to find a baptism for my 6th grt grandfather William Oliver Measom.

On the 41/51/61 census records he is living in Burton Overy, Leicestershire and gives his birthdate as C.1770 and birthplace as Spratton, Northamptonshire.
He marries Sarah Jane Simpson 21 Apr 1794 Burton Overy, Leic.

I can see a Hannah Measom was buried 3 May 1802 Spratton but that's all.

There is a William Masom bapt 1768 16miles away from Spratton in Irthlingborough. Parents John and Mary?

A John and Hannah MASON were producing children in Spratton between 1773 and 1787, bit not a William.

This is my ancestor too! He’s the furthest we’ve been able to trace my maternal grandfather’s line back. We were told a story about his name being mis-recorded as he was an illegitimate child named William of Measham that gradually evolved to William Measom but I’ve no idea where the story came from or if there is any truth in it. I’d love to know if you ever found any more about him.

I think the problem is that William Measam states that he is from Spratton, Northamptonshire on all census records.
He gives his birth date as c1775 on census records and there is actually 2 Williams born illegitimate in Measham, Leicestershire around this time.

William Ensor, bapt 1775, Illegitimate son of Anne Ensor (Widow).
William Burrows/Burroughs, bapt 1778, Illegitimate son of Jane Burrows/Burroughs.

Its possible William is one of those?
