Hi all,

I have a bit of a conundrum.

My mother and her mother (my grandmother) were estranged. We found out a couple of months ago that my grandmother had allegedly passed away in January 2017.

I have been trying to find out the specifics for my mum and to add this information to my family tree but I can't find a record of the death registration anywhere.

Does it take some time to go online? We don't know the exact date of death, but I would like to try and find out more information for my mum.

My grandmother's name at death we believe was Joan Prisca Yaxley (prev. Sprague, nee Kirton). She was born 6th March 1921, but she did sometimes fib about her age and say that she was born in 1926, but I don't know if that would have gone through on her death registration? She was born in Calne, Wiltshire and we believe died there also.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's great information, thank you. I've checked the probate index and it doesn't look like there was a will (unless the probate hasn't gone through yet - I notice that one with the same surname didn't go through until April this year).

I will try the British Library.

Hi Carol,

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately there were no results for my search. It looks like it wasn't announced in the paper sadly. I've searched online for newspaper notices but I'm going to try contacting the papers directly just in case it doesn't show online.
