WAAF Vera Fox
« on: Sunday 22 July 18 15:09 BST (UK) »
My mother was in the WAAF in the 1940’s I have a photograph of a friend from those years and if possible would like it to go back to the family. Her name was Vera FOX not sure if this was maiden or married name. They were both working on barrage balloons in and around the Bristol/Filton area.

Welcome to RootsChat.

Vera Fox is quite a common name and being in the WAAF means she could come from anywhere. Went on Ancestry and when I asked for Vera Fox born 1920 + or - 10 years got pages of births.

Wonder if these can help or at least point you in the right direction.

Many thanks for the reply I did contact the WAAF assoc after my Mother died but they couldn’t help.
I only asked her about the photo about 2 days before she died in hindsight I should have asked before
I will check on the ancestry sight.

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Bit of a long shot but there is a newspaper article in Nelson Leader 26 June 1942 recording the marriage of a Jean Fox who was attended by her sister Vera Fox who wore the uniform of a WAAF corporal.

Not really much help but the above Vera is a possibility.

JJ

The above Vera Fox married Major Andrew McIntyre Binning, 4th Gurkha Riffles at Manchester Road Congregational Church in 1946.

Hi Wendy and welcome to Rootschat...nice work Jen  8) You may want to consider sending it to a newspaper for the area to appeal for relatives of Vera.

There's a lot of detail in that 1942 marriage item. Jean and Vera Fox were the daughters of Mr & Mrs John Fox of 9 Delph Mount, Hibson Road, Nelson. There's a very poor group photo but I can't discern a WAAF uniform.

Perhaps it's worth posting a link to your Vera Fox photo http://www.bbrclub.org/BBRC_Wendy-Clifford_Photo-of-Vera-Fox2.jpg
