Freebmd has the marriage as Brown
Marriages Mar 1914
BROWN    Arthur J
Day    Eliza E
Holborn    1b   773

And Anc has details-

29 March 1914  St Peters Church Clerkenwell
Arthur James Bown age 21 Store Keeper  - Father Arthur Bown (Deceased) Compositer to Eliza Emma Day age 17 - Father Samuel Day - Horse Keeper  Witnesses Samuel Day and Alfred Ernest Stotter??
This again is news to us, Thank you, slowly a picture is emerging. Even though he was our grandad my sister and I no so little about him.
I’m surprised that at 21 he never went to war? Maybe medical reasons?

I believe Alfred Stotter is the uncle he was living with in 1901 I don’t know what happened to his parents.
May I ask how you get to witnesses etc I can only get dates up and surnames

Hi again, in your opening post you state " His brother moved to Southend"?
Or was that your fathers brother?

Arthur Thomas Bown dies prior to 1901 census.

Arthur Thomas Bown's death looks to have caused issues - Arthur James and his 2 sisters (Elizabeth S b 1891, Clara b 1894)  seem to come into the workhouse/poor law system in August - sept 1899. Brought in by "police master" with a short period in Mitcham School [workhouse institute] and on second admission are returned to mother. Presumably why one ends up in the orphan school

I’ve searched 1939 census but got nothing, must be putting wrong/not enough info in. All the addresses seem to match info that we have, although we thought other family members lived at these
In 1939 his father-in-law was also living there + daughter + one redacted.

RB 58 --- You have asked:

'May I ask how you get to witnesses etc I can only get dates up and surnames '.

Do you have access to the Ancestry website? This is a subscription site and contains many datasets of all sorts of historical records, including the parish registers of old London marriages..

To find them go to 'Search' in the menu along the top of the screen.
From the drop down menu which appears select Card Catalogue.
Insert a key word in the search box --- such as 'London marriages' -- or whatever you are interested in -- just to see if there are any records on there.

If you subscribe to Find My Past -- you can do the same thing with their A-Z of Record Collections -- just insert a word such as a county, or electoral or poor -- or whatever. On each site there are many different record sets -- on Find MyPast you can find old Newspapers for instance. Each site will have some datasets which the other hasn't.

I hope this is of some help - as I notice that in your 'interests' shown at the foot of your messages you say you are hoping to learn.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Have found some more on the Bown girls

Elizabeth Sarah b 1 April 1891
Clara b 12June 1894

Comments - destitute. Mother Elizabeth in the house [ie workhouse]  Also mentions police court

Arthur arrive a day later - dob 6 July 1893

3 weeks later is noted May Bown dob 1 May 1896 (not sure if she is related, but potentially is as she returned to mother at workhouse on same date as the rest)
