Tracing Living Family
« on: Tuesday 24 July 18 15:11 BST (UK) »
Would there be anyone out there of the Theobald family from Great Wigborough,Essex.
I am trying to trace decendants of the siblings of George William Theobald, born 1888,died 1971 who emigrated to Australia. He joined the Essex regiment in WW1 with 3 of his brothers. His parents were William King Theobald and his mothers name was Caroline Ponder

Have you looked to see if anyone else is researching your family by looking in 'Surname Interests' under 'Your Tools' below?

As you know his parents' surnames, what are the names of the brothers?

Also worth typing the name Theobald into the searchbar at the top of the page (a list with that name shows), maybe worth checking through?

I have an extensive family tree on Ancestry but not many Theobald's are researching. Those that are we have made contact. As to his other brothers who joined up with him.My Grandfather Arthur William Theobald born 1891 died in 1939.William Bertie Theobald born 1895.The only other one who would have been old enough could have been a step brother by the name of Frederick Ponder born 1881.but have not been able to confirm if he joined up yet.I ave the names and birth dates of all his other brothers and sisters, but have not been able so far to find or match many decendants to them.

Not everyone has trees on Ancestry or any other site, many keep their trees on their computer & some may have joined a free site such as Tribalpages?

There are people (as I said) researching the surname Theobald here on RC i.e. a look through the posts may reveal something/someone worth contacting as it won't be their ancestors doing the research  ;D

Thank you so far for advise,I have tried several times to search via the putting in my family surname, but not found a connection so far. Also I have tree's on a couple of free genealogy sites as well as Ancestry. The reason for the search is that we think George William Theobald may have have left his WW1 medals behind with family when he emigrated to Australia. His son now in his 80s in Australia, had no knowledge  of his fathers medals one of which is the Military Medal for bravery. Also his son had no idea that about family in the UK untill a few years ago when a cousin contacted him.

Are you also researching Frederick T Ponder's family, and have been in contact with his family?

Hedley could have joined up before the end of the war - or do you mean that they all enlisted at the same time?

Yes I do have all of his brothers and sisters in my tree including Frederick T Ponder.I have not so far made any connection with the Ponder side of family.Hedley also emigrated to Australia and both George and Hedley's decendants were unaware of each other until a few years ago.I was wondering about Hedley and will do a search to see if he joined up.The only info we have about 4 brothers joining up is a newspaper clip from Australia after George died .That mentions that he joined up with 3 of his brothers.
