If the record chempat found is correct then year of arrival can't be 1848. Perhaps that year (1848) was from census records or family stories?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

This is very interesting.  I have documentation ( petition for naturalization) that a James McGee from Ireland with a DOB of 1 Jul 1823 immigrated in 1848.  Could there be two James McGees from Ireland that have the same DOB??  The record that chempat posted (thanks for that) is for sure my James McGee as the family is from Beavertown, Ohio.  In the 1900 Federal Census he says he immigrated in 1833.  Guess I need to go back and recheck/verify what I found.

Does the documentation say that he arrived in the USA in 1848, or in Massachusetts in 1848?

If he had a sibling who died in Ohio even just 2 years later, try their records. The Ohio death records started asking for parents' names in 1908.

edit to add

who is Charles in his household in 1850?

I didn't find him in either of these two histories:

History of the city of Dayton and Montgomery County, Ohio

https://archive.org/details/historycitydayt00compgoog

History of Dayton, Ohio : with portraits and biographical sketches of some of its pioneer and prominent citizens.

Have you tried a local library for an obituary, not just a death notice? It looks like Beavertown is part of Kittering, Ohio, at present. It's a slim chance there is one, let alone that it will mention his parents, but you might learn something else, like brothers and sisters.
