i am looking for information on the marriage of Morton Archibald Humphrey (1894 - 1972) and Mary Elizabeth (1904 - 1993). they were possibly married in the sussex area in 1969. they both were born in england and died in australia. i have not been able to find mary's surname or where they were married. morton is my grandfather, and his first wife annie died in australia in 1964.

The only marriage registration I can see for Morton Humphrey is:

December quarter 1932 - Cuckfield Registration District, volume 2b, page 414

Morton H Humphrey and Mabel L Pagden

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Forgive a possibly very stupid question  :)

If Annie died in 1964 in Australia, what makes you think that Morton came back to England to re-marry?

There is a tree on Ancestry which suggests that Morton remarries in Australia in 1966.  A note attached to another tree suggests that Morton returned to England for a visit in 1964 where he met Mary.  She went to Australia and they married around 1966.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Electoral Rolls Western Australia 1968 subdivision of Victoria Park

Mary Elizabeth Humphrey, Tuam Street  Household duties
Morton Archibald Humphrey, Tuam Street pensioner

So if they married I would say Australia before 1968.

His first wife was Annie E Ashdown, 1919 Rye registration district Sussex

I don't think this is the birth reg for Annie as she was age 28 years when they left for Australia in 1924?? - apologies I misread the marriage year as birth year !!!

Departure
27 Mar 1924 destination Freemantle Australia
Morton Archibald Humphrey 29 Gardener
Annie E Humphrey wife 28
George Morton 3
May Ashdown 12
address Domons Cottage Northiana Sussex
intended country of residence Australia
it seems May Ashdown was the illegitimate daughter of Annie's sister??

Can you get the death certificate for Mary Elizabeth Humphrey?

Morton Archibald Humphrey' death gave his parents names.
