Pirton Marriage 1774 Richard Shepherd
« on: Wednesday 25 July 18 08:01 BST (UK) »
Has anyone got access to Parish Records for Pirton Hertfordshire please, I’m looking for 2 marriages for a Richard Shepherd the 1st was 9th October 1738 to Elizabeth Whitamer, she died in 1766, second marriage to Jane Dennis 14th April 1774. I am trying to establish whether this was a second marriage for Richard or whether the 2nd Richard is a different person.
I have seen the transcripts on the Pirton Local History Group website but there is no indication of the groom’s status, just wondered if it states whether he was a widower or bachelor on the 1774 entry.
Many thanks

The Banns, published 10th, 20th and 27th March 1774, can be viewed on FindMyPast - but marital status is not recorded. Groom of the Parish of Pirton, bride of the Parish of Holwell.

The marriage was in Holwell - John Shepherd was a witness - no marital status given

For others reading this, if you are researching Pirton Ancestors, their local history group have transcribed the registers along with a whole range of other resources and put them online which is why they don't appear on FindMyPast except for the Banns

Thank you all for the information given, if no maritial status was entered, I will never know for certain if this was a second marriage or not.

Best wishes
