John Tierney
« on: Friday 27 July 18 22:40 BST (UK) »

Hi, i am trying to trace any brothers or sisters of John Tierney born 1873 in Preston. His Father was John Tierney ( Hawker ) and mother Bridget Tierney ( maiden name Mcgwill or Mcgill/ Mcguill ) also a Hawker. Not able find them on any Census except 1881in Fulwood Workhouse were it looks like John Tierney the father had died and son and mother were in mates.

How old is Bridget in 1881

Hello and welcome  :)

Lancashire BMD http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/index.php shows several possible births and some deaths for the children.

1865 Mary Ann and Michael with McGill
1868 Daniel - McGill
1869 Elizabeth - McGuill

1871 census
1871 4174/14/21 has
Bridget Tearn 31 yrs b Ireland
Catherine Tearn 11 yrs b Ireland
Elizabeth Tearn 2 yrs b Preston
Boarding  in Blackburn.
There is a McGuire family boarding too - not McGuill though.

I wonder if these are your family?

Heywood

Sorry I keep adding to this
Both women are Brush Hawkers

I've posted information on the thread where Darren first posted which is Lancashire Archives look-up. I've asked for his post on that thread  to be moved.

2 possible deaths for John:
 1877, age 39 in Preston;
1874, age 46 in Trinity sub-district (Trinity is also Preston I think.)
Edit. 1874 should be 1881. Ooops!

I couldn't find a marriage for John Tierney and Bridget McGill. There were 2 John Tierney/Tearney marriages with spouse Bridget -1864 at Bolton and 1874 at Blackburn but wrong surnames for Bridget.

A Thomas Tarney was registered in Stalmine sub-district 1861. Stalmine is some distance north of Preston.
Edit. Mother's maiden name was MGill.
