Hubbard of Countesthorpe
« on: Saturday 28 July 18 18:18 BST (UK) »
Hello

I'm having trouble in finding a marriage for my 5th grt grandparents Thomas Hubbard and Mary and them and children on Census.

From What I can see these are all the Children =
Elizabeth Hubbard B. 1815
Catherine Hubbard B. 1816
Eliza Ann Hubbard B. 1820
Caroline Hubbard B. 1822 (My 4th grt grandmother)
Ellen/Helen Hubbard B. 1825 - D.1838
All are baptised in Countesthorpe.

Caroline lists her father as Thomas Hubbard FWK on her marriage in 1842 Leicester but I cannot see her in 1841.

The only marriage I can see is one between Thomas Hubbard Grocer of Market Harborough and Mary Coltman of Gilmorton by license 1817, This is a red herring as I have found this family on census and it seems to not be my Hubbards.

Thomas Hubbard is most likely the Thomas Hubbard bapt 1787 Countesthorpe son of John Hubbard and Elizabeth Jervis but with out a marriage I cant be too sure.

The Thomas who married Mary Coltman Baptised a Son THOMAS 02 Jan 1822 Market Harborough.
His Occp a Grocer.
(other children on FreeREG for them also)

Your Caroline was Baptised same year so definitely not your Family as you say .

It may be a red herring but 1851 Census has a Mary Hubbard living Willoughby Waterless, a Widow, born c 1779 Parish Unknown, London.

I think that must definitely be Caroline.
I'm not sure if Elizabeth Marvin is her sister though. It seems on the 1851 census Elizabeth Marvin's birthdate changes to 1808 and birthplace as Leicester St Margaret's.

Interestingly there is a Thomas Hubbard aged 84 born 1787 Countesthorpe living in Countesthorpe 1871 with a 34yr old wife and a number of children from this marriage. He is also a Framework knitter same occupation as Caroline gives on her marriage in 1842. Could this be father Thomas and a new wife? GRO gives children's mothers maiden name as Burley.
I can see the banns for this marriage 1855 Countesthorpe but not a marriage record so I don't know wether Thomas is a widower or not but given his age compared to her I assume he is.

First Wife Mary's burial and the mother of Caroline?
Mary Hubbard buried 26 Apr 1846 Countesthorpe. aged 68 birthdate 1778.
