Hi all,
I am hoping that someone will be able to find John Gallagher as I have found the rest of the family as they all died young in Magherafelt.

John I can't find so I am thinking he has went to America in search of work.  JOhn was born in Magherafelt 12 Sep 1876 to Adam Gallagher and Jane McKernan.

Thanks for all your help.

Kieran

Would it not be best to first find a record of John Gallagher leaving the U.K to see when and where he went?
Have you checked all possible Irish records first? census, marriages & births, etc.

Hi Aghadowey,

Thanks for your reply.  Yes I have checked the Irish Records I got his birth but no wedding or death found.

That's why I think he went to Amercia.

Thanks

Kieran

I suggest checking to see if he left the U.K.- have you done so yet? I believe both Find My Past and Ancestry have passenger manifests (indexed) for the correct period. Then, if you do find a record you will have a country to start looking for him in rather than assuming he might be in America because you haven't located a record of him in the U.K. yet.

It's also possible he moved to Scotland, England or wales so you need to consider searching all possible records.

Without anything further to go on, it's practically hopeless.  There are dozens of John Gallaghers in the United States born in Ireland at about that time.

Why don't you trace him in U.S. census records and see?
