Military Locations
« on: Sunday 29 July 18 09:48 BST (UK) »
My father was in the RASC at the end of WW2.  I have found from his transcribed service record that he served with the following:

1.  53 Primary Training Wing.
2.  12 Training Battalion.
3.  25 Personnel Section.
4.  Supplies & Transport No 5.
5.  Middle East Unit 129.
6.  Middle East Unit 94, India Command.
7.  136 Corps, India Command.
8.  Bulk Supply Depot, Singapore.
9.  No 1 Depot, Malaya.

Can anyone help me in identifying the exact location of these units or point me in the right direction.  Any assistance will be much appreciated.

Thank you both for your inputs, most welcome, particularly as my father would only mention he was in Ceylon (I suspect item 7) and Singapore and not expand.  Again, thank you.

What did you mean when you said "transcribed" service record?  This implies that you don't have his actual service records.

No, my mother asked for his service records quite a few years back and the MoD forwarded a typed letter listing these units he serviced on.

Did your mother apply by filling out a form or just by writing a letter?

I find it a little odd that she only received a letter listing where he had been with no other details.

Below is the link for applying for service records.  Have a look and see if you wish to apply again.  It cost £30 to obtain them and will take some time to arrive.

You will need to download and print off the relevant forms to apply as well as sending the money.

My mother filled in a form but as I'm now informed this was way back in 1991 and at that time apparently you weren't given original copies.  No matter and thank you for the direction, the forms will be posted tomorrow and the wait begins. :)

Just to say that you will receive photocopies of his service records.  They don't send out the originals for obvious reasons.

You will probably also get a long list of abbreviations that are used and what they stand for.

The waiting time varies between getting them within a month or several months later.
