If you give us a bit more information - name of the accused, date and place of conviction - we may be able to help. Are you sure your source says "P Q" ?

Are you sure it is PQ and not PO? Maybe Post Office letter or Postal Order ... Royal mail a crime against the King/Queen = thought of as a very serious crime, depending on the era.

You don't give the date but if it was from the Post Office, then under the Post Office Act 1908

Stealing mail bag or postal packet
If any person—
(a)steals a mail bag ; or
(b)steals from a mail bag, or from a post office, or from an officer of the Post Office, or from a mail, any postal packet in course of transmission by post; or
(c)steals any chattel or money or valuable security out of a postal packet in course of transmission by post; or
(d)stops a mail with intent to rob or search the mail;he shall be guilty of felony, and on conviction shall be liable, at the discretion of the court, to penal servitude for life or any term not less than three years, or to imprisonment, with or without hard labour, for any term not exceeding two years.

Thank you for the information you have given.  The wording looked very like a Q on the three sentences but O makes more sense.  So I have completed my request.

Have you looked for press reports of the trial?
