Findmypast - no more 1 month subs?
« on: Wednesday 01 August 18 19:06 BST (UK) »
Are FindMyPast no longer offering one month subscriptions?

I have a few Welsh recently records that I want to look at, but the shortest sub I can buy seems to be three months. A week would do, three months would be a waste of money

I've just had a look, and yes, 3 months is the new minimum.   There's a 14 days free trial, probably only if you've never registered before.

Have you tried the local library?   Many are hooked up to ancestry as well as FindMyPast.

You never know how long you'll need.  You can start off (as I did thinking the same as you) with a month or so, and find more and more things to have a look at.    But probably the library would be the thing for you, if you have one handy.

You'll have to wait for a free weekend, buy some matches to keep your eyes open and hammer it to death methodically :)

So have different people got different options as my account still says 1 month is available  ???
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

I do have a local library, within a short walk, and have some time off in between jobs at the moment.

I shall check with a neighbour who is on the library committee, whether they have FindMyPast. The library website was useless.

If it's just a short walk, nip down there.   If they have it, it's free to use.

I called the library - they don’t have FindMyPast “but you may be able to access it on our computers and there may be charges”, just Ancestry.

And then I did an online chat with FindMyPast, they are, I was told “experimenting with packages and credits”, which might explain why some are still seeing one months subs available and others aren’t.

One month is still available, likewise credits, but you have to ask - I did and was sent a link.

Not sure that I understand that monthly subscriptions are no longer available.

Today's e-mail related to the new records, reports that 1939 searches are available on monthly Pro and Plus subscriptions.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
