Great Grandads Grave
« on: Wednesday 01 August 18 23:50 BST (UK) »
Hi all.
I've recently been discovering about my great grandfather. Harry Rose Jackson who served in ww1. I know he is buried in Grantham Cemetery and the plot number is  Plot 4-L-11.
Does anyone know if I contact the Cemetery if they would be able to tell me if he has a headstone? I would like to visit and lay some flowers for him but not sure if I can if he doesn't have a grave stone.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Amanda, I have quite a few relatives buried at Grantham cemetery, and often visit there, they are really helpful there and should be able to tell you exactly where the plot is, and also if there is a headstone.

Yes, if you go to the cemetery office, behind the crematorium, there is a very nice lady there......just a thought, if there IS a headstone, I could take a photo of it, and send it to you.....just let me know….

That would be wonderful if you could Del. But please don't go out of your way or anything.

I am planning on visiting but not sure when I will next be able to get there as I don't drive and trains are a bit awkward from here.

Thank you so much.

Hi Amanda,

Harry Rose Jackson was a discharged soldier who was 35 when he died in Grantham and was buried in a un purchased grave on the 5th November 1918 which means sadly there is no headstone.
This information was from Grantham Cemetary Burial Records 1855-1989

Hi Kathy.

Thanks for the information.  I had a feeling he wouldn't have a headstone. I hope it won't be a problem to put flowers down though.
