Mary Mitchell born Abdie, 1823

Hi everyone,

Mary Mitchell married Daniel McGregor in Cupar, 1855. She is recorded as being a widow with 2 surviving children from a previous marriage.

The marriage record also states her parents as being Alexander Mitchell and Christian Haxton, so I know Mitchell is her maiden name. However the only child in her 1861 census record born before she married Daniel is a Christian D. McGregor born in Cupar 1853.

I can't find any record of a previous marriage, rather there are lots of Mary Mitchells who married, but I can't nail down which one she is.

I also can't work out who, or where, her 2 children might be. Of course they might have died between 1855 & 1861 - when the next census was done.

I'd also like to know where Christian D McGregor comes form as I can't find any record of her either.

I will keep going, but if anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate it.

I thought that too, but when I double checked, there was a different McGregor married to a different Mary living in Tradeston in 1901.

Sorry, I should have said that from 1861 - 1901 the family were in Leith. I haven't got as far as checking the 1911 census yet as have been trying the most cost efficient way of finding her!  ;)

Could this be the 1st Marriage (based on the 'D' in Christian's name & the fact she was born Cupar)?

Snap Annie - I've just been looking at that couple on the 1851 Census.
Andrew is a 26 year old Shoemaker. Mary is 25 . And they have a son James 6 month old.

Just heading to bed Annie -

But just before I go - there is a death at Kelvin , Glasgow in 1927 of a 72 year old woman.
Christina Haxto Dall / Christina Haxto MCKenzie .
Naturally, I've no way of knowing without using SP credits which is the maiden name. But with Mary Mitchell's mother being Christian Haxton/Hackston this looks a possibilty.
