Alexander Jolly b. c1827 - Mains of Brotherton, Kincardineshire
« on: Saturday 04 August 18 00:08 BST (UK) »
Hello all, I know there are a lot of posts on the Jolly's, but I am looking for information on an Alexander JOLLY born 1827 in Mairn of Brotherton, Kincardine. This is the place of birth given on his Masters Certificate of Competency.(issued 1872). I have his death in 1889 in South Shields.
He married Catherine ALMOND in 1856 in Northumberland and later Ann DEW in 1875 in South Shields.
Any info or links would much appreciated.
Adam

Welcome to rootschat, Adam.

What was his Father's name on his marriage certificate?

Have you found him in all the censuses?

I have done a google search for Mairn of Brotherton, Kincardine - where do you think it is - just Kincardine or Brotherton?

Have you been in contact with those who have him in their trees on Ancestry?

There is a brother for Alexander - William born 1832, so possible family in 1841
living at Mains Brothertow
William Jolly   55 born  Kincardineshire, Scotland  Ag Lab
Jane Dowie   50
William Jolly   9
Jane Blacklaws   6
Parish: Benholm;

Added:
That  family in 1851
At Mains Of Brotherton
William Jolly   68
Jene Jolly   59   Fordoun, Kincardineshire
Jane Blacklaws   15  Granddaughter  Benholm, Kincardineshire
William Jolly  8  grandson Montrose, Forfarshire

To stop me duplicating information that you already have, could you just say if you have his birth, parents' marriage etc etc, as they look fairly obvious on scotlandspeople etc.

Hi chempat, thanks for taking an interest in my post.
Previously, the only info I had was that he was born in Aberdeen in 1827 and have both marriage details.. Yesterday I was given a copy of his Masters Certificate and on the back shows birth date and place of birth.
A search on "Scotlands People" shows two Alexander Jolly's born between 1826 and 1827. I am assuming the one born 7/4/1826 in the Benholm Parish is the one, as it is  closer to Brotherton.
I don't have any birth, death or marriage certificates, but have some census info when he was living in Albert Road, Jarrow in 1881.
I will have to keep digging.

Apply for marriage certificate to get confirmation of his Father's name - saves searching wrong families.

Added:
you have put:
'have both marriage details.. '
so Father's name?
