Encumbered Estates terminology 1850
« on: Tuesday 07 August 18 01:55 BST (UK) »
In an 1850 Encumbered Estate entry for County Antrim, the term "Representative of..." is used. Does this have the same meaning as in Griffiths Valuations- that the person named is dead? Or could this be different and mean a representative of a living person?

Are you able to post any other details from the entry or a link for others to look at, to decide on the meaning within the context?

Yes.

Details are for The Braid Estate, Ballymena, Barony of Lower Antrim, Co. Antrim. Encumbered Estate of Stephen Moore, Earl of Mountcashell. 1850. Lot # 4, Elginny Townland, Entry # 22:

Tenant's Names: Representative of William Paul. Area. Annual Rent. Gale Days. (values given.) Tenure by Which Tenants Hold: Lease dated 2nd March 1846 for 30 years from 1st November 1845.

That is the complete entry and I assume that this William Paul was dead in 1850.
