Hi I'm looking for the father of my husbands 4GGF Thomas Sutton B1825 .
I have him on the
1851 Census at Cobmore lodging with Samuel turner
Samuel Turner    50
Charlott Turner    46
Thomas Sutton    26 Forgeman
Joseph Unwin    2

1861 Census at Alderhey Lane , Mow Cop
married to Harriet Clare B 1815
Thomas Sutton    Puddler at Iron Forge
Harrett Sutton    
Tamar Clare    daughter
Ellen Sutton    daughter
Joshua Clare   boarder

According to his marriage cert to Harriet Clare on 14/7/1855 at St Pauls burslem
he is Thomas Lees a bachelor forgeman  living in The Sytch Burslem Father is Samuel Lees
but on his marriage cert to Sarah Cope nee Mayor on 19/9/1880 at St Thomas Kidsgrove
he is Thomas Sutton a widow forgeman living in kidsgrove Father is Samuel Lees

i'm confused ....Please help !

No info as to where he was born in your post - it was Wolstanton on the 1861 entry

Have you checked the 1841 census?
Have you checked Family Search for a baptism?

I suspect he was illegit but knew who his father was

Was his death registered as Lees or Sutton?
