I would be grateful for some help with my McLeans please.
From SP OPRs:
Marriage 28 Nov 1789 Rosskeen
William McLean from Knockbain and Christian Rose of "this parish".
Children born to William and Christian from SP OPR index:
Elizabeth 1794 Knockbain
Margaret 1799 Knockbain
Annie 1802 Knockbain
On SP OPRs I have found a La(u)chlan McLean born and baptized Nov 8 1807 Knockbain. i thought he was mine, however his mother is
Annie Rose! His father William McLean is a Smith. I can't find a Lachlan McLean with mother Christian.
"My" Lachlan, his wife and and children immigrated to Australia in 1842 and his immigration record named his parents as William McLean and Christian Rose. (In some later records Rose has been morphed into Ross). His Australian death record names his mother as Christina Ross (which I think is close enough to be the same Lachlan).
I would appreciate some assistance to find further children born to William McLean and Christian Rose, especially earlier ones which may help me identify their parents via the Scottish naming pattern. Can anyone spot them having a son called Lachlan?
OR ...
am I looking at the wrong family? Are there two William McLeans, both Smiths, in Knockbain/Munlochy - one with wife Christian Rose, and one with a wife Annie Rose?
Children for William McLean and Anne Rose are:
Lauchlan 1804 Knockbain
Lauchlan 1807 Knockbain
William 1810 Knockbain
John 1812 Knockbain
The children with mother Christian and mother Annie all seem to slot quite neatly in date wise, so could Christian and Annie be one and the same?
Slight niggle (which I would generally dismiss) ... On his 1842 immigration record Lachlan says he is 33 which means a birth around 1809 rather than 1807. He is able to read and write.
I hope all of that is not too confusing.
Thanks for any help anyone can give with this puzzle.
Added: I have found a marriage in 1798 for a William McLean and an Ann Ross in Kilmuir Easter.
