Wilkinsons and Dewhursts. Which ones?
« on: Wednesday 08 August 18 03:36 BST (UK) »
Trying to investigate the line of my 2nd great grandfather was Robert Henry Wilkinson, born at Walton Le Dale 1853 to Henry William Wilkinson and Mary Dewhurst. Beyond that I'm stumped, as there are so many of these surnames. Other information: Robert immigrated to Australia in 1875. He married Jemima Rice in 1875. They had 13 children.

The information I have on his parents are: Henry W. Wilkinson, born Mellor 1820. Mary Dewhurst b Samelsbury 1823. Am I on the right track.

I have so many doubts. Beyond Henry and Mary I am only guessing.

Thanks for any help.

Have you got?

Baptism 3 Jun 1855 St Saviour, Mellor Brook, Balderstone, Lancashire
Robert Wilkinson - son of Henry Wilkinson & Mary
Born on the 20 Jan 1853
They were living in Samlesbury
Henry Wilkinson was a Weaver

Samlesbury is a village and civil parish in the borough of South Ribble in Lancashire. Think you need to check a 1851 or 1861 census

Maybe Mary Dewhursts baptism?

Baptism 12 Jun 1823 St Leonard, Walton le Dale, Lancashire, England
Mary Dewhurst daughter of Richard Dewhurst & Anne of Fishwick parish, Preston

Samlesbury and Fishwick are close togeather both near Preston.

Any Richards and Annes in the 12 children?

Many thanks, people.
To whiteout7 -  have that 1855 Baptism. I know it's two years after the birth but that does happen. There's a Richard but not Anne among the children. As for Mary Dewhurst's baptism, I have a different one on 13 Apr 1823 at Samelsbury (daughter of Thomas Dewhurst and Catherine walker). This is what I mean about many families with these names.
To Kay 99 - That's the marriage I have for Robert's parents. Bride and groom's parents match. Is it most likely?

If this is the family on Family Search in 1851  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGRB-RMM  and 1861  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7TD-5GD   then it  ties in with the bapt Whiteout found and the 1848 marriage does look most likely

Many thanks. I think the 1851 & 61 Census are correct, as is the 1948 Henry Wilkinson / Mary Dewhurst marriage. But my problem is is determining beyond that (ie., Henry's and Mary's parents).
