I'm having trouble searching FamilySearch. I keep getting an error message:

As far as I know my web browser IS the most up to date!

A list of the web browsers that we support can be found here.
See https://www.familysearch.org/browser-upgrade

Apparently you need either Chrome. Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge

I usually simply ignore any such message, and carry on regardless ;D

It's only a recommendation after all?

They say
If you do not want to upgrade to a better browser, you can select one of these options:
I want to use my current web browser, knowing that many of the features won't work.
I want to try the reduced functionality version of FamilySearch at lite.fs.org.

Familysearch doesn't work properly in IE11 for some time (and that message has appeared for some time) and has worked even less with the site since a recent upgrade.  I've had to give in and use Edge even though I prefer IE11 which is "up to date" a la Microsoft but they aren't I gather providing many updates now for it.  If Edge worked as well as IE11 I wouldn't mind but its fairly useless for a lot of things and privacy.  I can't stand Chrome as it is so resource hungry and am not that fond of Firefox but use it as a backup.  It is of course a personal preference but sadly I suspect the days of being able to use IE11 for most sites is drawing to a close which is annoying as it was easy to save .mht files of webpages when needed.  These won't open in other browsers. :-\

I've tried using it. Certain search parameters are greyed-out. There appears to be very limited functionality in Outlook Explorer in Windows 7 (work pc so I can't upload any new software/browsers). I've just checked this. I hadn't realised our operating system was so archaic!

My PC at home is windows 9 with Outlook Express.

I can use it on my Android mobile using Chrome but trying to search on a mobile is far from ideal ::)
