Dorset Family History Society’s Monthly Meeting
« on: Thursday 09 August 18 19:15 BST (UK) »
Dorset Family History Society will be meeting on Monday 10th September 2018 at St John’s Church Centre Hall, Ashley Road (opposite Waitrose), Upper Parkstone, Poole, BH14 0AA.

Doors open at 19.30 for 20.00 start.  Entry is £2 to include refreshments.

LES MITCHINSON will be giving a talk on ‘WORKHOUSES AND THE POOR’

The records of the Workhouse and the Poor are often overlooked yet they contain much information that can help colour a pedigree and also extend it forwards from the 1911 Census. The majority of the records are held at a local archive making them easily accessible to the researcher. Les will describe the early workhouses and the records of the Parish chest followed by the records created after the 1834 Poor Law Amendment and the establishment of Poor Law Unions.

Les is a professionally qualified genealogist. After graduating he became a course tutor with the IHGS and in January 2017 was appointed their Director of Education. He also has his own business in Family History with clients from around the world, and runs family history day courses and courses in genealogy leading to qualifications.

EVERYONE WELCOME
