Thomas Hudson was allegedly the father of my ancestor Mary Ann Hudson, who I thought may have come from the Hudson family mentioned in this thread:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=798015.0It seems that Mary was not from this family directly, but there are way too many points of confusion now for me to get my head around!
Mary Ann Hudson was allegedly full age when she married on 1st May 1841; she lived on Charles St, father Thomas, possibly a FWK (certificate not clear on this). The 1851 census has her as M Kelner, pob Shepshed, age 29. She died in 1858, allegedly age 36.
I have never found a matching baptism for her and had started to believe that Thomas was made up. HOWEVER some more facts have come to light:
Thomas Hudson b 1798, Shepshed, son of John and Mary. However he seemed to marry Matilda Caudwell in 1821 in Shepshed. Their first child was Mary Elizabeth who seems to have died in 1842. Rule this family out, despite the Shepshed link.
Another couple, Thomas and Elizabeth Hudson, baptised children in Loughborough (including John, 1788) and St Margarets (including Thomas, 1799). John was a sawyer and his will (1831) names his parents (still alive) and mentions that he is building property on Charles St, (where my Mary Ann lived).
Another Thomas Hudson was buried at St Mary de Castro in 1849 from Charles St. The family seems to be in Halford Square in 1841 - Thomas and his wife Mary both age 45, Emma (bapt 1825) and Thomas (bapt 1827). Both baptismal records give Thos Snrs occ as sawyer, and address as Charles St (though the 1841 census has him as an ag lab, albeit in the middle of Leicester!) Thomas' widow and his son are in Charles St in 1851 and the son is also a sawyer. I think this Thomas married Mary Westbury in 1823 at St Margarets, and I also think this Thomas was John's brother.
To throw another cat in amongst these pigeons, another Thomas Hudson from Loughborough was buried in Shepshed in 1830, age 65. Probably not relevant but unfortunately it's another confusion!
So. Charles St links. Plenty of Thomas Hudsons. Shepshed links. Can anyone see any way to tie these together to help identify the father of Mary Ann, who, to summarise, was allegedly born in Shepshed to a father called Thomas and lived in Charles St?
