If OP checks 1939 register they should be able to find the Nottingham George's dob to see if it matches.

Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge

We seem to be in two different parts of the country - where did your George get married?

Is he likely to be from Nottingham as the other one is sounding plausible at this point.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

his mother was known as Evelyn carne  gunn ? But there are some uncertainty a out the mothers name

There is also a birth for a George CARNE, probably illegitimate.

CARNE, GEORGE
No mother's maiden surname
GRO Reference: 1901  S Quarter in STEYNING  Volume 02B  Page 271

There is a marriage of a George Frederick Gunn in Steyning district in Q3 1902. One possible bride is Ethel Harriett Carne

That seems to rule out Nottingham George and make the Steyning one reg'd as Carne the most likely
