You really need to specify what records you need looking at and what you need to know. Not many people visit Kew and those that do often go at short notice

Thanks Carol,  ;D

These that Jim found then  :-\
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=stockport+%28girls%29+industrial+school

those yes, thank you. My great grandmother Emily Sophia Black was born in 1886, never seems to be on any census with her mother and siblings, (her alleged father seems to have died six years before she was born, so there's that weirdness too...) and there's an Emily Black age 14 at that school on the 1901 census that we're sure has to be her. I'd like to know when she was brought there, for what reason, and when she left where she went from there. She next turns up married to my great grandfather in 1909, and with his family and my infant grandfather on the 1911 census, so between her birth and marriage the 1901 census is the only hint I have of her existence.

I'd also like to know what this Certified Industrial School was like in general, so I have a better picture of what Granny Emily went through.

Thank you to anyone who can help!

Not sure what this might contain, but may have some snippets.  It's in Stockport Archives, maybe easier for someone to check there for you or the archives may have someone who can check.

Some info about the school here - looks as if there's an album with some photos!
How exciting would that be!  :)
(The National Archive link takes you to 'STockport Ragged and Industrial School" - so it looks as if the Ragged school turned in an Industrial School?)

One of my favourite items that we are featuring is this photograph album from Stockport Ragged School. The Ragged School was for children living in poverty. The album contains lots of photographs of children from the school, from roughly around 1865. This is a highly unusual resource, as it was extremely rare for poor children to have been photographed under normal circumstances. This is because one of the members of staff at the school was a keen amateur photographer, so we have him to thank for this wonderful photo album

And more about he school here - it was a 'Ragged and Industrial School' from 1866.
This piece gives some information about the school, and the writer has looked into the lives of some of the children photographed in it, along with their photographs.

I'm sure if you contacted Stockport Heritage Library directly, they would be happy to try and help you. They have obviously done quite a lot of research into the school.
