Those letters in the margin are the abbreviation "pr" and this does mean private baptism.  The child is often later received into the church in a more public way.

Exxamining more pages of the register, I have come to the conclusion that the date in the box with the number in it is the date of the private baptism.  The date in the margin is the date of being received into the church.

In your first example, there is a symbol in the margin next to the words "received into the church.." that looks like a vertical line with two small horizontal lines across.  The same symbol is used in the margin against each of the private baptisms over the next few pages, with a date under neath.  I think the symbol stands for "received into the church.."  There is no symbol or extra date for a couple of those marked "pr"
