Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Hi Hallmark

Thank you for your reply, I've had a look at the link you supplied, Ballygargan seems a strong contender, I also found a list of townships on Wikipedia there is about 5 or 6 Ballyg's listed, just couldn't decide which one I was looking for. I will be able to tell my mother I've managed to pinpoint Hugh Mckeown's(her grandfather) actual birth place. On a hunt now for more information on Ballygargan.

Many thanks

Regards

Patricia

Hello

Firstly:- Hallmark, the census returns you supplied the links to at first glance don't appear to be my Mckeowns the William listed is too young, may or may not be connected, I will add the link to my favourites and have a look through and see what comes up :)There's loads of McKeowns all with similar names.

Agdahowey Thank you for the link to the birth record for Joseph Patrick McKeown, he is a correct family member, I will . link to my favourites & have a search & see who else comes up.

Hugh McKeown who is my direct line (the son of William) was apparently the only member of his family who cames over to Scotland & settled in Glasgow I don't think she knows about any other children of William apart from her grandfather Hugh.

I have always understood the Irish records can be difficult to research if you didn't know parishes etc.,

Many thanks to you both for your time.

Regards

Patricia

P.s. I joined Rootschat quite sometime ago & have never asked for help before but in the space of a few hours been give great links to finding more family members  :)

First do parents search on www.familysearch.org (that's how I found Joseph) then look up the actual record on Irish Genealogy site. Family Search Irish births & baptisms database covers from 1864 (start of registration) until c1880.

Your original post was to find the Townland. I think we all agree Ballygargan.

Now you know they weren't there in 1901.

I agree Wm is too young but have you looked to see who his father was? Birth Reg?  Have you looked for his Marriage?

McKeown   Jane   76   Female   Head of Family 1901.... have you looked for her Death?  Who was informant?
