Good afternoon all,

I've got a bit stuck trying to trace William Petchey (b. circa 1820 Widford Herts) back beyond the 1861 census - can anyone help please?

This is what I have so far:

Maria Petchey, born Dec qtr 1853, Dover Registration District
Shows her Mother's maiden name as Marsh
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Shows William's birthplace as Great Adam, Hertfordshire.

That seems very feasible though can't find a Great Adam in Herts!

I must admit I can't see a first marriage  but noticed a first child I think

Sadly died in the same qrtr
