Rutter
« on: Tuesday 21 August 18 18:45 BST (UK) »
Looking for information on the parents and siblings of John Moses Rutter born October 1842 in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England. I know who he married and about his kids but not much about his early life. Thought his parents might be James Rutter and Maria Rawlins who were born and died around the same area but don't know for certain. Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Have you checked the GRO website to see if John's birth record shows his mother's maiden name?

JJ

Added - I see that Pheno has checked this for you. Rollins sounds similar to Rawlins.

Baptism of their first child -

Selina Rutter
Christening - 18 Apr 1824, Belbroughton, Worcester
Father - James Rutter
Mother - Maria

The location of the above baptism is the same as the marriage of James and Maria in 1823, therefore it would appear that you have the correct mother of Maria Rawlins.

And a marriage of a Joseph Rutter to an Ann Hemus at Belbroughton on 23 Sept 1801.

It appears that there were other children of this marriage besides James in 1801 who are:

Elizabeth 1804/William 1809/Solomon 1815/Anne 1818 all baptised Belbroughton.

All these records are on FamilySearch so I will let you carry on now.

He seems to have given himself the prefix 'John' - his birth reg'd as Moses in Dec qtr.1841, and Moses on the census for 1851 and 1861.
