George Ronald Kirk 1913-1949 and Wilhelmina Christine Kirk 1920
« on: Tuesday 21 August 18 22:43 BST (UK) »
Im hoping someone recognises these names as I  would love to know more about my mums dads side :) I only know what ive found on ancestry.

George Ronald Kirk and Wilhelmina Kirk (maiden name trainer) are my great grandparents, All I know is that the Kirks (Georges family) are from Scotland but moved down to Newcastle Northumberland which is where Wilhelmina lived. They later moved to Woolwich, London in the 1940's and had 2 sons and 2 daughter, Ronald, Christina, Jean and David, after a few years in Woolwich George died very young he fell from Blackheath church in 1949.

I would really appreciate the help

Regards

Emma,

They married in Ayr in 1939  as per Scotlands People.  You can download a copy of the marriage cert from that site which will give you George's parents names and mothers maiden name.  He is only shown as George on the marriage entry but SP is showing a birth for a George Rogan Kirk in the timescale

Ignore that birth - he died aged 1yr

Go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and buy a few credits. Use 6 of these to download the 1939 marriage certificate. It will tell you the full names of both of his parents, including their mothers' maiden surnames. It will also tell you how old he was, from which you can work out approximately when he was born. You can also look up his parents' marriage and see where they lived, which should give you an idea where he might have been born.

I see from https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl that he was said to be 35 when he died in 1949. That gives a birth year of 1913/1914.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I don’t think he was born in Scotland but until you establish his parents names from the marriage cert you won’t be able to move on

Was his middle name definitely Ronald on his death cert?
