Where was the Taylor family after 1901?
« on: Wednesday 22 August 18 13:56 BST (UK) »
I am trying to prove (or disprove) a link for J TAYLOR on the Fenny Stratford/Bletchley War Memorial.

"Soldiers Died In The Great War" has Pte 17805 John Taylor, 14th Bn Worcs Regt born Maidstone Kent, resident Bletchley, enlisted Malvern. CWGC confirms death on 22 Oct 1917 but no mention of kin.  The Register of Soldiers' Effects give John's legatee as sister Edith E.

This led me to a likely TAYLOR family on the 1901 census: 64 Old Road, Linslade, Bucks
William, head, 50 born Marden Kent; Annie, wife, 40, born Fenny Stratford; John Thomas, son, 8, born Stroud Kent; Edith Emily, daughter, 7, born Marden Kent; Mabel Grace, daughter, 5, born Linslade, Bucks; Arthur Ernest, son, 1, born Bedford.

The GRO index confirms the mother's maiden name for all children to be WATTS - leading to a marriage Mar qtr 1886 Maidstone Kent TAYLOR William & WATTS Annie.

There are possible deaths: Sep qtr 1904 Newport Pagnell THOMAS Annie age 44;  Sep qtr 1922 Newport Pagnell THOMAS William age 71

And there, I get stuck!  I haven't managed to find the family on the 1911 census (not even just using children's first names).  I haven't found a newspaper obituary for John, Annie or William.  Electoral Rolls have many William TAYLORs in Buckinghamshire, but there is no way to prove the correct one.

Can anyone help me find where the family were between 1901 and 1918?

Many thanks
Philip

Hi.....

Is Edith the one in Appledore Kent in 1911?
Children are scattered so parents may have died.

Tazzie

Tazzie - you superstar!  A thousand thanks.
So the timeline goes:
1901 family together in Linslade
1903 death of daughter Mabel
1904 death of mother Annie
1911 John and Arthur living with adoptive uncle and aunt
1911 Edith E working as a servant (I had that as speculative, but I think it's correct)
1911 William's whereabouts uncertain
1917 John killed in war.
1922 death of William.

The Duncombe street address is the piece of the puzzle I desperately wanted to find!

(cut to shot of Philip leaping happily around the room shouting: "Whoopee!".  Dog runs away terrified and wife peers around the door wondering whether to call for the men in white coats...)

Hi....
Youre very welcome..
For the last 5 years we've been going through the local war memorials but haven't done Fenny yet.
Been looking at the names and filling in their stories its been fascinating.
I can't narrow William (snr) down . Edith marries a Bennett in 1922 and she's back in Buckinghamshire.

All the information I find I send to http://www.roll-of-honour.com/ and http://buckinghamshireremembers.org.uk/ to add to what they already have.

I'm trying to get the last few of the 69 Great War names on the Fenny Stratford/Bletchley War Memorial identified before Armistice Day, but there's a few that might defeat me!
