I am not related to your Sinclairs but live  near Tongland and have an 1841 Census for Togland. I have found living at a farm called Barstilby

SINCLAIR Farquar 30, ag.lab. born Scotland
SINCLAIR Mary 25
SINCLAIR Jannet 3
SINCLAIR Archibald 1

Hope this is some use.

Hello Callywoods,

Many thanks for your information.

How lucky you are to be living near the area.  Over here in Aussie I seem so far away.

You have supplied me with another piece of my Scottish puzzle.

Maybe I could ask you a question regarding Farquhar's father and brother who were both soldiers.  Do you think they would have joined the Argyll Highlanders in the 1800's?

Once again thankyou for your help,

Regards,  Annette

Hi again Callywoods,

Could I possibly impose on you again and ask if you would refer to the 1841 census again for me.

Farquhar's father, Mother and brother:

SINCLAIR,  Walter  b Tyree  b abt.. 1779  - would be perhaps around 60.

   "             Marion     "       ch 1782

   "             Angus      "        ch 1809

Your help much appreciated.     Annette

Hi Annette, Sorry I only have 1841 census for the local area so cant help you with Tyree but I would think it quite likely that men from there would join the Argyll Highlanders.
Very happy to help with any other questions - if I can!

It's me again Annette!
I have just been looking through your posts and I wonder if you ever look at the Scotlands People website? There you can view all Scottish BMD certificates from 1855 so you should find your Farquar's death cert, which should have his parents names. Scottish certs are very informative. Sorry if you know all this already! Happy hunting!  Callywoods  :)

Hello Callywoods,

I happen to have the death cert. of Farquhar Sinclair but it offers more questions than answers.
The IGI tells me his father was Walter , and his mother was Marion McArthur.

The death cert, with his daughter as the informant states that his mother was Agnes McNaught.
Whether Walter remarried, I am yet to uncover.

Then again seeing Farquhar died on the 29th February maybe it is a joke on his descendants.

Farquhar was born in Tiree, his wife in Dumphries,  but they had moved to Tongland where 6 of their 7 children were born.
The 6th child, Robert married a lass from Anworth and they sailed out here to Aust.  in 1881.  Hence my branch of the  family here began and Robert is my great grandfather.

Thanks again and tomorrow I will take another look at the Scotlands People.
That would be in between watching the cricket test between Aust. and the rest of the world.  So far so good.

Regards,  Annette

I would be inclined to believe the daughter rather than IGI!
What was Robert's wife's name? I am very interested in Anwoth (no R) as my ancestors come from there and it's just 2 miles from here.
Hope you enjoy the cricket!

Good morning,  yes I am refreshed to start the day.

Robert's wife was Elizabeth Beattie.    Father: James Beattie.  Mother: Mary Welsh.  Elizabeth was born  23.1.1959.
Her death cert states that she was born in Gatehouse.  How would this be situated to Anwoth?   Robert and Elizabeth married in Gatehouse of Fleet.

I have yet to obtain Elizabeths B/C and their marriage cert.

Thankyou for the spelling correction.  I have many charts I must alter today.
It really is no wonder mistakes happen because on Robert's D/C the place of marriage is "Garehouse of Fleck".  It does get hard at times.

I am researching the Beatties too but going back to early 1800's is difficult.

Many thanks,  Annette
