EU church Aberdeen
« on: Thursday 23 August 18 07:16 BST (UK) »
Hello I am trying to find out what the EU church in Aberdeen was in 1896/7. There is a mention of Rev Alexander Stewart (in an RCE he filled in a schedule D certificate, changing my great uncles forename on a birth cert). I think that it was likely a “Free” Presbyterian Kirk, (perhaps Evangelical Union guess) but can’t find anything to say there was a church denomination like that.

Thanks.

Thank you Malky!

I can't find where records/archives of this church might be found, any suggestions?

The only suggestion that I have is the Aberdeen City Archives.
There is mention of the Evangelical Union movement in Aberdeen in the following web site :-

https://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/CongregationalChurchRecords_2.pdf

Noted page 14, or PDF page 17 of 52. There is also a page on Silver City Vault which mentions the movement.

Also :- https://digital.nls.uk/directories/browse/archive/86899335

Plus, some further light reading here :- http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ml1/

Many thanks again Malky. Nothing directly mentioning the John Street church specifically, but hopefully all the b,m,d have been captured by Scotland’s People.

Further digging suggests that it was :-

Malky, seriously I am in awe at what you are able to find for me. Believe me I have looked myself, but got nowhere near finding the building! I'd buy you a pint in the "tap" if you were here, and we could soak up the ambiance which I'm sure hasn't changed ;-)

Cheers!
