WW1 uniform
« on: Thursday 23 August 18 16:58 BST (UK) »
Is there anyone out there who can identify the uniform the soldier (on the right) is wearing. The notes on the reverse side seem to say the kilt is Cameron, the socks are Red & Green and the jacket is Khaki. Also are the stripes on his arm representative of a rank? If so what is it? Also there appears to be something pinned to his left breast pocket. What might that be? Thank you in anticipation.

just putting it up again without the white space.
He's a Lance Corporal.
The chevron on his sleeve is for good conduct awarded after 2 years.

And the left pocket thing is a cane/swagger stick underneath his arm.

His cap badge certainly looks like Cameron Highlanders but as a sassenach I leave it to others to comment on the tartan to avoid retribution from across the border.  Google Cameron Highlanders Tartan and see what you think.

I read the name at the bottom of the pic as John McKay Doune but clearly he came from Doune near Dunblane.

He may be holding a swagger cane under his arm which is what you can see over the pocket.

Thanks to all. I have now found that he was indeed in the Cameron Highlanders and died in November 1917 in the Battle of Passchendaele.
