Presumably.

The action on 17 Nov 1917 took place against a line of shell holes occupied by the enemy running between Virile Farm and Vocation Farm in squares 29 and 30 (trench map/image at: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=15&lat=50.9161&lon=3.0052&layers=101464870&right=BingHyb
Virile Farm was most heavily defended and it seems that most casualties were caused by the enemy there.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

You two are obviously experts thank you. At the risk of asking a daft question what do the blue line and circles with crosses represent?

The blue line is the British front line, red are German depending on which map you're referring to.
If it's the one I put up the blue circles are the German held positions that the 1/Cams. have to take. After that they moved forward & established a defensive front along the blue line.

Sad but fascinating.

Another question if I may. On John's CWGC record his mother is mentioned but not his wife. Why would that be?

With these kind of plans success rested on the Battalions on the flanks achieving their objectives at pretty much the same time so they would be "in touch" with the other Battalions. It didn't always happen which left Battalions dangerously exposed to counter-attack.
Fortunately they did hold the line but suffered heavy shelling.

I'll take a look at the CWGC.
