I have found the Census data at familysearch but it doesn't list an occupation. Is an occupation listed for Mary? Her husband, William G. Allen, is listed as Professor Of Music.

Hve you tried freecen as their transcriptions are better (normally)?

Possibly "Languager"  :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

William’s occupation is Professor of Elocution, Music & Languages.  The word Languages has gone over onto Mary’s line but is not referable to her.  In common with the vast majority of married women in 1871 she is not attributed with an occupation.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. It is believed she was running a school and I had hoped the Census would show that.
