« on: Friday 24 August 18 10:07 BST (UK) »
General Register of Poor Parish of Applecross 1845-1917. The Poor Law (Scotland) Act of 1845 established parochial boards in rural parishes and in towns, with a central Board of Supervision in Edinburgh. The parochial boards built poorhouses for those categories of paupers who did not receive ‘outdoor relief’, normally in the form of a small weekly sum of money. Compiled by Stuart Farrell this publication has 120 pages (with approx. five entries per page), and gives a wealth of information, including: Name, age, date of birth, present residence, married or single, widow or widower, name of each dependent living with pauper, etc. The records were extracted from six volumes held in the Highland Archives, Inverness (Ref. CS/6/1/16-21). This publication is available from our website at a price of £5.00 plus p&p: https://shop.scotsgenealogy.com/acatalog/2018-August.html
