Medal Roll interpretation please
« on: Friday 24 August 18 14:09 BST (UK) »
Could some kind soul please interpret this entry on the Service Medal and Award Rolls?

Many thanks in advance.

My (hopefully educated) guess is that this was an enlistment/re-enlistment in 1919 to serve in the North Russia Relief Force   Many of the other men on the roll were 1919 re-enlistments from other regiments specifically for the purpose.  The roll also has interpreters from Salonika - mentioned to indicate that this is an "odds and sods" roll.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Churchills-Secret-War-Lenin-Commonwealth/dp/1911512102 shows the composition of the British element.

Many thanks MaxD.  I've since found his medal card and it says he got Victory and British medals - RASC/101B173, page number 17680 (same page number as the snip).  :)

That's right. His service record does not seem to have survived but I'd guess at serving in Salonika when the call came for volunteers and he went on the expedition.
