I wonder if electoral rolls might help trace their movements?

Not between 1939 and 1946 when the government had other things on its mind.

London is sunny this morning so after I've done some chores (the washing machine is already on) I'll trundle off and have a look.

;) Of course. I didn't think of that Dawn.  :)

Good luck with the grave search.

Yes, good luck with your search Dawn - will give me closure, either way.

On closer inspection of the first map it looks as if the shop SWAMI Express is 15.

I'm not sure cupcake.

The 60's looking section containing Nationwide may be bomb damage replacement (or just a poor planning decision). Firstly I counted up from the small alleyway you can see on the map, but because on street view it is not obvious where that is, probably due to the rebuild I mentioned, I counted the "house" numbers back from the corner of Bond Street. That was how I decided that 17 was Moss Bros. I could have got that wrong though.  :)

Wherever it was, you get an idea of the building and the area, and very nice it is too.  :)

I would certainly think you have a much better idea, than me. But as you say I get an idea of the building and area. Definitely very nice :)

Perhaps one day, I'll find out more ,regarding the Bakery bussiness.

Coincidentally, just walked past the cemetery on the way back from watching the mighty Brentford FC.

Thought I saw someone matching the photo in Dawn's profile so waved and wished her good luck.

Got a blank response tho  :(

Can't see Dawn talking to a Brentford Supporter of whatever stature.

Mind you Brentford do seem to be playing well at the mo.
Hope it's not a "Flash" in the pan.    8)

For cupcake

The plot is unmarked, but I took photos of the area which I will email to you if you send your email addy by pm.

For steviesteve and others (I will split off the banter after a reply from cupcake)

I heard the roar of the football match several times from the tranquility of the headstones. Sorry I missed you unless you were dressed as a woman pushing a pram, were riding a bike listening to very loud music or part of a small gang of lads skateboarding through from Popes Lane.

Most grateful to you for doing the headstone search. The plot may be unmarked but I will now know the area, where she is buried.  Have sent you a PM with my email address.

Enjoying the banter. Your reply to steviesteve and others is very good , made me laugh  ;D.

I think it is very possible that no.17 was Thomas Kidman's baker's shop. (It was my first thought).

As you can see, 8 Southfield Road is purely residential so he must have worked from a shop somewhere. The houses on Southfield are lovely and the area looks to be fairly affluent now as it would have been in the 30s.

I wonder if there are any trade directories or newspaper advertisements which may help you find Kidman's bakery and when and where it was? .

First of all the above number of house/building above, should be 89.

Was at the library and got access to Ancestry intending looking for Burial Registers but not knowing my way around it, didn't get anything. Will have to make another visit.

However, don't know how it happened,I ended up with a Street Directory for 1941 giving me 89 Southfield Road, Acton,W4 and there wasThomas R Kidman - Baker.

From what I can make out he was at this address from 1939/1941 - then don't know where he was. The war may have had something to do with.

1949 he was in Finchley, Friern Barnet (he would have been 60 yrs  by then and perhaps retired) 1953/1964 he was at 11 Crown Court, Friern, Barnet where he died in 1964.

So I think we can say, he had his own business.

Where did you originally get the number "8" from cupcake?
