Thanks, Rosie99. That's a revelation. I will investigate.

Is it likely to be his son Edward,  I have not tried tracking him.

Ignore that I see his middle name is Cyril

HUNTER, EDWARD  CYRIL     mmn HOUGHTON

Thanks again, Rosie99. I have now printed off the marriage cert in Durban. How did you manage to find the record in Family Search? I just tried various inputs, but no luck...
I don't suppose you have located his death - that would be the icing on the cake?

From this page I just put in Edward Couchman Hunter
https://www.familysearch.org/search/hr/search

The top entries were his English birth and marriage followed by the SA marriage.  I have not looked for a death yet

To write off the Dharwar entry....

It reads Edward Hunter and Ellen A Hunter both 27 and from Lancashire.
Possibly Edward Hunter and Ellen Alice Isherwood who married in Preston Lancs in 1880.
His occupation was brickmaker.

// I have that now (it seems my IGI link was loading a different start-up screen). I see an Edward Hunter returned to Southampton on the 25th November 1908 on the Walmer Castle. There are 7 possible death locations for him on BMD. I have work to do, but today has been a Eureka day - thank you to all contributors.

It might be worth posting on the South Africa boards in case they can find deaths or other information for Edward & Eliza after their marriage.
