Tranmere Vale
« on: Saturday 25 August 18 22:28 BST (UK) »
Not sure if this is the right place to plonk this post, but seemed the most fitting given that it's in Wirral.

On a couple of my ancestors birth certs I have the location 'Tranmere Vale' and I have Googled it and thus far only found further posts of people being born there.  What I'm trying to find out is where about in Birkenhead Tranmere Vale was?

I did get a little sidetracked on Google and came across criminal court proceeding in 1887 which listed  various witnesses giving statements against a lady who was found guilty of deception and perjury and faced 12 months in prison, all around Tranmere Vale Terrace....  ::)

Any ideas?

This map (1876) shows Tranmere Vale just south of the Birkenhead brewery

(Move the map a bit to the right - to help find it, Tranmere Vale is also near Tranmere Park and Clifton Park)

Welcome to RootsChat  William and well found Maddy.  :D

This map might make it easier to locate as it is such a small road https://maps.nls.uk/view/102340990#zoom=7&lat=7212&lon=9567&layers=BT

That's brilliant, thank you so much!!

Tranmere Vale on the map is exactly where I wanted it to be as I have ancestors living in nearby Wilkinson Street, Penrith Street and Warick Street.  Just looked again at the map I was working from originally and overlayed with the map you have linked to and it looks like Tranmere Vale was at some point renamed to Carnforth Street, which makes perfect sense!

I also have ancestors in Carnforth street, I just need to find out which ones and if they are connected  :o

What a perfect start to a wet gloomy Sunday  ;D
